“Insecure” and “Ballers” Land Season Renewals from HBO



Premium cabler HBO has handed season renewals to and . The news was announced today by Amy Gravitt, executive president of HBO. Both shows have seen record viewership this summer.

“We’re thrilled that the summer lineup of Ballers and Insecure connected with our viewers out of the gate,” said Gravitt. “We’re so proud to work with Dwayne, Issa and all of the amazing talent in both shows.”

Insecure is airing its second season and was created by Larry Wilmore and star Issa Rae. It follows the friendship of two black women as they deal their own real-life flaws while attempting to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. The comedy also stars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, and Lisa Joyce.

Rae executive produces with Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry.

Ballers is currently airing its fourth season and stars Dwayne Johnson as ex-superstar Spencer Strasmore, who has reinvented himself as a financial manager for today’s players in sun-soaked Miami. Johnson leads the cast that includes Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown, Jazmyn Simon, and Dulé Hill.

The half hour series was created by Boardwalk Empire‘s Stephen Levinson. He executive produces alongside Mark Wahlberg, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Evan Reilly, Rob Weiss, Julian Farino, Denis Biggs, and Karyn McCarthy.
