Two Brothers Pictures’ LIAR has tapped Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd to star in six-part thriller set to bow on Sundance TV and ITV in the UK.
The series tells the story of a night that changes the lives of Laura Newell and Andrew Ellis forever. Laura, played by Frogatt, is a smart and dedicated teacher while Andrew, played by Gruffudd, is a renowned surgeon whose son attends Laura’s school. The pair date but neither is aware of the far-reaching consequences that their meeting will have on each other or their families as the show examines both sides of a relationship, both sides of the truth, and the devastating cost of deceit on everyone around them as secrets and lies are laid bare.
Creators Harry and Jack Williams are BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated producers and writers. They will executive produce through Two Brothers. James Strong will also executive produce and is the lead director on the series. Filming is set to begin in November.
Frogatt is best known for her role as Anna Bates on the award-winning PBS series Downton Abbey. Gruffudd previously played Mr. Fantastic opposite Jessica Alba in Fantastic Four and more recently has been seen in San Andreas and the short-lived series Forever.
Frogatt is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA, and Conway van Gelder Grant in the UK.
Gruffudd is repped by ICM and Framework Entertainment.
