Already an up ‘n coming actor who is being recognized for his roles in Marvel’s Iron Fist and The Affair, Ramon Rodriguez has just joined the non-CG voice cast of Disney’s adaptation of Katherine Applegate’s THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Rodriguez will join Bryan Cranston, Brooklynn Prince from The Florida Project and Arianna Greenblatt (Stuck in the Middle) in the live action portion of the CG/live-action hyrbrid project directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You).
Recent Oscar winner Sam Rockwell voices the title character Ivan, a silverback gorilla caged up in a shopping mall along with an elephant named Stella (voiced by Angelina Jolie) and a dog named Bob, and it shows what happens when a baby elephant named Ruby shows up at the mall.
The mall is owned by Cranston’s character whose daughter (Greenblatt) befriends the gorilla, and Rodriguez will play his assistant.
Applegate’s book, illustrated by Patricia Castelao, was published by Harper Collins in 2011, when it won the prestigious Newberry Award. The New York Times bestseller has been compared to classics like Stuart Little and Charlotte’s Web, both of which have been turned into live-action/CG hybrid films.
Last year, Rodriguez got attention playing Bakuto in Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix before transitioning over to its follow-up The Defenders. He recently signed on for a role on the fourth season on the popular Showtime series The Affair. Repped by UTA and Silver Lining Entertainment, Rodriguez had roles in the 2017 war drama Megan Leavey, DreamWorks’ Need For Speed and Jordan Roberts’ indie drama Burn Your Maps.
