J.K. Simmons Set To Star In “Patriots Day” With Mark Wahlberg

has been tapped to star alongside in the Boston Marathon bombing drama, PATRIOTS DAY. The movie will be based on the true events of the bombing and the five day search that led to the capture of suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Simmons will star as Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, the off-duty officer from the Watertown Police Department that chased Tamerlan days after the bombing. Wahlberg will star as Boston Police Department officer in the investigation.

Last year, Simmons won an Academy Award for his role in Damian Chazelle’s Whiplash. He will team up with the director again in La La Land starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. He can also be seen in The Meddler alongside Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne later this year as well as And Punching The Clown, which premieres at the South by Southwest Film Festival. On the animation front, he lent his voice to Kung Fu Panda 3 and can be heard in Disney’s Zootopia.
