Jack Black is set to take on the world of polka in THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING. Black will produce and star in the feature based on the documentary by Joshua Brown and John Mikulak.
The movie will tell the true story of Jan Lewan, who rose to fame in Pennsylvania as a polka star and then came crumbling down after a Ponzi scheme. Maya Forbes and Wally Wolodarsky have signed on to write and direct, while David Permut at Permut Presenations will produce with Priyanka Matoo at Electric Dynamite. Stuart Cornfeld and Monica Levinson will also produce. Permut’s VP Chris Mangano and Matoo have signed on as exec producers. Red Hour Films and Shivhans Pictures will finance. Production is slated to start this summer.
Black recently reprised his role in the successful animated franchise, Kung Fu Panda 3. He also found box success in the adaptation of the family-friendly horror book series, Goosebumps.
