Jackie Earle Haley will sink his teeth into the role of the evil vampire, Sayre in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER.
Haley will is set to join stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as well as Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee and newcomer Tom Taylor. The Sony Pictures franchise tells the Old West-esque story of Elba’s Roland Deschain, also known as The Gunslinger, who roams a heightened Old West landscape of universes in search of the dark tower, which he hopes will preserve the world. Haley will play the evil humanoid vampire which appears in the series of books while Taylor is Roland’s protege. McConaughey is set to play the mysterious villain known as the Man in Black who Roland meets along the way.
Sony is setting up The Dark Tower as an expansive franchise on the big screen and television and is co-financed by Media Rights Capital. Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct and wrote the script for the first installment based on previous drafts by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinker. King will serve as a producer. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Erica Huggins of Imagine Entertainment will also produce alongside Goldsman’s Weed Road banner. The movie is slated for a Feb. 17, 2017 release date.
Haley recently appeared in the action pic London Has Fallen and has a role in the Sundance Film Festival winner The Birth of a Nation. He also can be seen in the upcoming TV adaptation of Preacher and recently signed to star in Amazon’s reboot of The Tick.
