It seems Angelina Jolie has found another actor to join her WWII drama UNBROKEN. Jai Courtney will star alongside Jack O’Connell, Finn Wittrock, Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Alex Russell, Miyavi and John Magaro in the Universal war-biopic.
The film is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” which in turn tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian and WWII pilot who crashes his plane at sea along with his two crewmates and who is taken hostage by the Japanese Navy after drifting in open water for 47 days. Courtney will play Hugh Cuppernell, another pilot who fights alongside Zamperini (O’Connell) in the war.
Jolie is helming the film from a script originally adapted by Scott Cooper, but currently being rewritten by Joel and Ethan Coen. Matthew Baer, Erwin Stoff, Clayton Townsend and Michael Bostick are producing. Francis Lawrence and Mick Garris are executive producing. Kristin Lowe, Sara Scott, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum and Peter Cramer are overseeing the project for Universal while Amanda Morgan Palmer and Jairo S. Alvarado oversee for Walden Media and 3 Arts Entertainment respectively.
Courtney was last seen in John Moore’s “A Good Day to Die Hard” and Christopher McQuarrie’s “Jack Reacher.” He also had a recurring role as Varro on Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.” He’ll next be seen alongside Aaron Eckhart in Stuart Beattie’s “I, Frankenstein” and alongside Kate Winslet in Neil Burger’s “Divergent.”
Courtney is repped by UTA.
