Jake Gyllenhaal, who recently finished a run on Broadway, is set to produce and star in THE LOST AIRMAN for Amazon Studios, the Tracking Board has confirmed. The project is based on the non-fiction book The Lost Airman: A True Story of Escape from Nazi-Occupied France by Seth Meyerowitz.
The book tells the true story, based on recently declassified material, of Arthur Meyerowitz (Gyllenhaal), an American turret-gunner. In 1943, his B-24 bomber was shot down over Vichy France and, while hiding in the countryside, befriendedMarcel Talliander, the founder of the French resistance group Morhange. Meyerowitz hid for six months before finally escaping with R.F.W. Cleaver, a British fighter pilot.
Gyllenhaal will co-produce with Riva Marker via their NineStories banner. Also set to produce is Oscar-winner John Lesher, who is currently in production on White Boy Rick. Meanwhile,Meyerowtiz, Anthony Mattero of Foundry Literary Media, and Dan Bodansky of Dixon Talentwill will executive produce.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news of the project.
Gyllenhaal most recently co-starred in Life with Ryan Reynolds and finished a Broadway run in April starring in the musical Sunday in the Park with George. This month, he’ll appear in the Netflix film Okja and will later appear in Lionsgate’s Stronger. He’s repped by WME.
