Jake Johnson is set to star in the untitled reboot of THE MUMMY. The movie is setting up Universal’s plan to build a interconnected franchise of classic monster movies.
The modern franchise started in 1999 with Brenden Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Tom Cruise is set to headline the new iteration of the epic action adventure as a special forces soldier. The cast also includes Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella, who will star as the titular mummy.
Alex Kurtzman will sit in the director’s chair for the reboot. He will also produce alongside Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel. Jon Mone and Jay Polidoro at Universal are set to oversee the project. Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts wrote the script.
Johnson currently stars in the Fox sitcom, The New Girl. He also starred in the box office blockbuster Jurassic World as well as the Joe Swanberg improvised indie, Digging For Fire. More recently, he starred in the ensemble bachelor party comedy Joshy which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival early this year.
He is repped by UTA.
