Jake Kasdan is set to sit in the director’s chair for the reboot of the popular ’90s board game adventure movie, JUMANJI. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner penned the script which was originally drafted by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Matt Tolmach will serve as the producer alongside Bill Teitler. Ted Field, Mike Weber, and the writer of the original Caldecott Medal-winning book, Chris Van Allsburg, will be executive producers. Sony Pictures has set a December 25 release date for the movie.
The 1995 movie starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. The story follows the adventures of two kids who find and play a magical board game. While doing so, they release a man who has been trapped in the game for decades. They are met with a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game.
Kasdan has a long list of directing credits for TV which includes The Grinder, Fresh Off the Boat, New Girl, and Freaks and Geeks. His movie credits include the comedies Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Bad Teacher, and Sex Tape. In addition to the Jumanji reboot, he is developing a sequel to Bad Teacher.
Kasdan is repped by WME.
