Beatrix Potter’s beloved PETER RABBIT is getting a live-action/CGI adaptation from Sony Pictures and actors James Corden and Rose Byrne are in talks to star. If confirmed, Corden will provide the voice for the titular rabbit and Byrne will take on one of the live-action roles.
From director-writer Will Gluck (he is revising the initial script by Rob Lieber), the film is said to be a modern interpretation of the stories, with Peter Rabbit, a mischievous rabbit familiar to many by his periwinkle blue jacket, sneaking into Mr. McGregor’s garden, who is adamantly trying to keep his space decidedly rabbit-free.
Gluck is also producing the film along with Zareh Nalbandian of Animal Logic Entertainment. Lauren Abrahams is overseeing the project for Sony.
Corden is the increasingly popular host of The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, who has achieved viral fame thanks to his Carpool Karaoke segments with guests like Adele, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Chris Martin, and Michelle Obama. He recently hosted the Tony Awards and co-starred in Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods. He will next be featured in the animated film Trolls.
Byrne is a multi-faceted actress, known for her roles in films like Insidious and its sequel, the current X-Men franchise, and the Paul Feig films Bridesmaids and Spy. Her upcoming slate includes HBO’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
