James Corden Skewers Academy Award Best Picture Snafu in “La La Land” Spoof

It’s been almost 48 hours since “Envelopegate” and is shamelessly oversaturated with stories about how and why the Best Picture snafu happened at the 89th annual Academy Awards. In case you didn’t catch any of the thousands of memes and news bits, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture when the actual winner was Moonlight. I give it another 24 hours before this story becomes officially obnoxious, but until then let’s enjoy this entertaining spoof where James Corden pokes fun at the whole ordeal.

In it, Corden dons a wig and a five o’clock shadow to play Emma Stone’s character during the memorable “Audition” scene in Damien Chazelle’s musical extravaganza. Instead of singing about dreamers that dream, he sings about how La La Land had their Best Picture dreams crushed after Moonlight was announced as the real winner. Corden slays the performance not leaving any room for other spoofs. That said, let’s consider this the end of any and all “envelopegate” talk.
