The beloved children’s book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter follows a mischievous young Peter Rabbit as he causes trouble around the garden of Mr. McGregor. However if Potter was here I can’t can’t see her thinking the film adaptation for PETER RABBIT should entail a raging house party and Peter using lettuce to “make it rain” on the other rabbits.
While watching this trailer I found myself cringing at the horrible jokes and feeling so disappointed such talented actors chose to lend themselves to this film. Peter Rabbit stars Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Sam Neill, Daisy Ridley, Margot Robbie and James Corden as the title role.
This comes from comedy director Will Gluck from a script he wrote Rob Lieber. Gluck has directed some of my favorite comedies of the past 10 years with Friends with Benefits, Easy A, and Fired Up! He then set his sights on the family film Annie, and has now fully established himself as a kid friendly director.
Audiences were subjected to the family friendly atrocity Hop in 2011, but it seems Sony thinks it’s a good idea to make another kid comedy with a rabbit as the lead.
Potter’s book was given credit for this film, however I feel as though she would have preferred not to have her books good name thrown in with this abomination.
Peter Rabbit hits screens on February 9, check out the trailer below.
