James Franco continues his endlessly busy slate, as he just wrapped on the indie drama KING COBRA. The multi-talented star reunited with writer-director Justin Kelly on the project, after starring in Kelly’s debut I Am Michael. King Cobra centers on a murder that shocked the adult entertainment industry in the early 2000s. Christian Slater, Garrett Clayton, Keegan Allen, Molly Ringwald and Alicia Silverstone also star.
In the true story-based pic, Franco plays a pornography producer and former escort with a bad temper and the aspiration to become a porn kingpin. He rivals Slater’s producer character, who becomes targeted when he signs rising star Brent Corrigan. The rage and burning jealousy results in a notorious murder.
“James, Christian, Garrett, Keegan, Molly and Alicia have consistently pushed the boundaries of film and culture at large with iconic performances,” Kelly said, regarding the project. “It’s been amazing watching them transform into these unique, fascinating characters.”
Jordan Yale Levine will produce via his Yale Productions, while Franco, Scott Levenson, Vince Jolivette, and Iris Torres produce via Rabbit Bandini Productions. Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment is also producing.
Franco has blossomed into a prolific actor, director, writer, and producer. He just wrapped on a handful of projects, including The Sound and the Fury, which he directs, scripts, and stars in. (Watch the trailer here). He’s currently shooting Hulu’s 11/22/63 series, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
He’s repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
