James Mangold is in talks to direct THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY, based on the novel by John MacDonald.
The film centers on Travis McGee, a Florida beach bum who takes up various salvage consultant jobs to pay his bills. When he begins searching for his ex, he finds himself in Grenada where he tangles with a sinister real estate developer. Leonardo DiCaprio was previously attached to star but has since dropped out. He will still produce with Peter Chernin and Jennifer Davisson Killoran.
Mangold last directed “The Wolverine” and before that, “Knight and Day”, “3:10 to Yuma” and “Walk the Line.”
He is repped by WME.
