Focus Features and Sierra Films’ adaptation of the Oni Press graphic novel COLDEST CITY has secured another heavy-hitter to the cast. James McAvoy will be joining the Charlize Theron-led drama, which centers on two spies during the Cold War, just days before the fall of the Berlin wall. Both of the operatives hunt for a list detailing the names of Cold War spies, on both sides, before it gets into enemy hands. John Wick co-director David Leitch is directing from a script penned by Kurt Johnstad.
Theron and Leitch are also producing the action/drama, along with A.J. Dix, Beth Kono, Eric Gitter, Kelly McCormick, and Peter Schwerin.Production is due to begin next month in Budapest, with continued shooting in Berlin afterward. McAvoy will first shoot M. Night Shyamalan’s untitled supernatural thriller, which is being produced by Jason Blum.
McAvoy had a busy summer, wrapping on X-Men: Apocalypse for Fox this past August. He’ll next be seen opposite Daniel Radcliffe in the revisionist take of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which hits theaters this November.
He’s repped by UTA and United Agents in the U.K.
