The series centers on a normal family as they try to hold onto their rags in the face of corrupting riches. It follows 11-year-old Harry Carter who creates Honc, an app for geeky kids like him who don’t know how to talk to girls. When Honc becomes the next big social networking success, it’s bought by Van Der Beek’s American billionaire, Trent Zebrisky. The show will look at how the family copes with a life-changing experience – and the posh advisor that Zebrisky installs to guide them.
Van Der Beek joins previously cast Rhashan Stone, Kerry Godliman, John Finnemore, Rhianna Merralls, and newcomer Rio Chambers. The series is written by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane, and Ian Jarvis, with Roughcut’s Ash Atalla and Alex Smith executive producing.
Van Der Beek is best known for starring the WB series Dawson’s Creek. Many times, stars of similar long-running series struggle to find their next project, but Van Der Beek found success in comedies, mocking his infamous role as Dawson but play a caricature of himself opposite Jessica Jones‘s Krysten Ritter on Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23. He stuck to comedies for some time, including appearances on How I Met Your Mother and Friends With Better Lives, before joining CSI: Cyber recently.
