James Wan is set to team up with director Brad Peyton for the long-gestating superhero pic MALIGNANT MAN at Fox. The Conjuring 2 director will produce the film while Peyton will sit in the director’s chair for the adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic.
Wan co-created the comic and is attached to adapt it for the big screen with Zak Olkewicz. The story follows Alex Gates, a patient dying of a terminal disease who is discovers that his malignant tumor is actually a mysterious alien parasite that grants him incredible powers. With his new lease on life, fights off a secret army lurking behind the veils of society.
Wan will produce under his Atomic Monster banner alongside Ross Richie and Stephen Christy at Boom! Adam Yoelin, also at Boom!, will co-produce. Peyton is set to produce while Jeff Fierson, his partner at Factory Backwards, will serve as executive producer. Matt Reilly and Ryan Jones will oversee at Fox.
Wan’s horror sequel, The Conjuring 2 opened strong at the box office this weekend. He is also attached to direct Aquaman for DC which is slated for release in 2018. He is repped by Paradigm and Stacey Testro International.
Peyton found success with the blockbuster disaster film San Andreas starring Dwayne Johnson. His next movie, Incarnate will be released later this year. He will also reteam with Johnson for Rampage, an adaptation of the popular video game from the ’80s. He is repped by CAA and The Characters Talent Agency.
