After wrapping up the Fifty Shades trilogy that launched him to international stardom, Jamie Dornan has signed on to star in the action thriller BORDERLAND, it was announced Friday by IMR International.
Set in London in the 1970s, Borderland is described as a high-octane, character-driven thriller in the vein of Michael Mann’s Heat.
Dornan will play a member of the IRA whose wife is accidentally shot dead in Ireland, leading him to take over an Active Service Unit in London. Their mission is to cause chaos and destruction, while his personal mission is to hunt down his wife’s killer — an SAS captain (Claflin) who is also hunting him.
Chris Coen (Funny Games) is producing under his Unanimous Entertainment banner along with Alan Moloney (Siege of Jadotville) of Parallel Film Productions and Rebecca Brown (In the Dark). Production will begin this summer in Dublin and London.
Dornan is coming off the billion-dollar Fifty Shades franchise, and he’s poised for a big year. He stars opposite Peter Dinklage in Sacha Gervasi’s HBO movie My Dinner With Herve, and he’ll be seen alongside Taron Egerton in Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood: Origins, in which he plays Will Scarlet. Additionally, Dornan has wrapped Matthew Heineman’s A Private War, which pairs him with Rosamund Pike. He’s represented by UTA and Troika.
Claflin recently starred in Me Before You, My Cousin Rachel and Their Finest. He recently wrapped Jennifer Kent’s psychological thriller The Nightingale, and will next be seen opposite Shailene Woodley in Baltasar Kormákur’s drama Adrift. He’s repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group, the latter of which also reps Kirk. Bennett is repped by CAA and Tavistock Wood Management.
IMR is also launching sales in Berlin on the Michael Keaton drama What Is Life Worth? and the Bette Midler-Sharon Stone movie The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife. The company’s sales slate includes Vigilance starring Sandra Bullock; Jacques Audiard’s The Sisters Brothers starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Joaquin Phoenix; and Anne Fletcher’s Dumplin’ starring Jennifer Aniston.
