Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx has signed on to play Little John in the gritty origin story of the heroic outlaw. ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS already found its titular archer in Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton. He’s joined by The Knick’s Eve Hewson as Maid Marion.
With the tone of The Dark Knight, the film will follow Robin Hood as he returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands. In the re-imagining of the classic folktale, Foxx’s Little John is a battle-hardened but war-weary veteran of who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood, having fought on opposite sides in The Crusades.
The pic is being helmed by Otto Bathurst, best known for Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror, from a script by Joby Harold, who wrote Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Charlie Hunnam-starrer Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are producing through their Appian Way banner with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell through their Safehouse Productions.
Production is expected to begin late summer or fall after Egerton wraps Kingsman 2.
Foxx recently wrapped Sleepless Night, the remake of the French thriller Nuit Blanche. He is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment.
