Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez has entered talks to star alongside Natalie Portman in Paramount Pictures’ sci-fi adaptation ANNIHILATION. Sources close to the project report that Hilary Swank and Frances McDormand are in contention for the remaining female lead. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are producing, while Ex Machina director Alex Garland writes and directs. Alana Mayo oversees for the studio.
An adaptation of the first entry in Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy, Annihilation follows a female biologist as she searches for her missing husband, volunteering for a mysterious expedition with a secret agency. She and her team eventually discover that something is amiss as they become stalked by a dangerous creature.
Rodriguez burst onto the scene with her Golden Globe-winning performance on Jane The Virgin. She most recently wrapped Peter Berg’s action/drama Deepwater Horizon with Mark Wahlberg. The emerging star has also been in the running for a key role in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.
She’s repped by APA.
