Jared Leto has signed on to star in the thriller THE OUTSIDER. Set in post World War II Japan, the Oscar-winning actor will play an American soldier who was released with the help of Yakuza cellmate. In order to pay him back for his freedom and earn his respect, he gets involved in the criminal underworld.
The Outsider will mark Martin Zandvliet’s first time directing an English-language film. Andrew Baldwin wrote the script which landed on the 2011 Hit List and Black List. Waypoint Entertainment and Linson Entertainment are set to produce.
Leto has numerous acting credits including Requiem For a Dream, Panic Room and Fight Club. He won an Academy Award for his turn as a transgender drug addict in Dallas Buyers Club. He can be seen next taking on the iconic role of the comic book villain The Joker in the highly anticipated Suicide Squad.
He is repped by CAA.
