Jason Bateman will lead in Blumhouse Productions’ UNTITLED JOEL EDGERTON/BLUMHOUSE PROJECT, originally titled ‘Weirdo.’ The highly-anticipated psychological thriller follows Bateman as a former jock who’s past comes to terrorize him in the form of an awkward, overtly friendly high school classmate, hell-bent on destroying his happy life and loving marriage. The star will appear opposite previously reported actors Rebecca Hall and Edgerton. Edgerton will star as Gordo, the ungainly man who bears a terrible grudge against Bateman’s character for bullying him as a youth, while Hall will star as Robyn, the wife who still holds a soft spot for Gordo.
This psychological thriller marks Edgerton’s directorial debut. Edgerton, Rebecca Yeldham, and Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse.
It was previously reported that Joel Kinnaman would play the lead, however the Safe House and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actor was switched out in favor for Bateman, a primarily comedic actor who has recently leaned towards serious films such as This Is Where I Leave You.
The actor/director/producer has had various projects released in recent years including, Horrible Bosses, Bad Words, and Identity Thief. He is currently directing the feature drama The Family Fang and executive producing the television movie Two To Go.
Bateman is repped by CAA.
