CBS Films’ forthcoming WINCHESTER has tapped Everest star Jason Clarke to join Helen Mirren in the thriller based on the real-life story of Sarah Winchester, who was convinced that she was haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester rifle.
Michael and Peter Spierig are set to direct the film they wrote alongside Tom Vaughn. The story follows centers on Sarah’s obsession with the construction of an enigmatic mansion designed to keep evil spirits away after the sudden death of her husband and child. Many were skeptical of her condition, but after an evaluation by a skeptical San Franciso psychiatrist Eric Price (Clarke), it turns out that she may not have been insane after all.
Brett Tomberlin from Imagination Design Works will produce alongside Tim McGhan of Blacklab Entertainment. Bullitt’s Benedict Carver, Diamond’s Daniel Diamond and Tobin Armbrust will serve as executive producers along with Andy Trapani, Toni Lianos, Brian Gilbert, Marc Shipper and Simon Oakes. Production is slated to start in March in San Jose and Australia.
Clarke starred in numerous films in 2015 in Everest and Terminator Genisys. He also stars in All I See Is You, which is bowing at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as the forthcoming World War II pic HHhH. It was also recently announced that he would play Senator Ted Kennedy in Chappaquiddick.
