Jason Ritter and James Brolin Climb “The Steps”

The comedy, a spec penned by Robyn Harding, centers on an uptight New Yorker and his party girl sister who go to a lake house to meet their new step family after their father elopes with a cocktail waitress to hear their dad’s big announcement. But the steps — and the announcement — are not what they expected. Andrew Currie is directing the project, which also stars Emmanuelle Chriqui, Christine Lahti, Vinay Virmani, Steve McCarthy, Kate Corbett, and Benjamin Arthur.

Ritter got his start on teen-centric projects like the thriller Swimfan, Ronny Yu’s Freddy vs. Jason, and the drama fantasy series Joan of Arcadia. From there, he went on to star in The Event and Parenthood, as well as the big screen dramas About Alex and You’re Not You. His upcoming projects include the sci-fi fantasy film The Labyrinth with James Franco and the sci-fi film Embers.

The younger generation will probably know Brolin from roles in Catch Me If You Can, Burlesque, and for his various appearances on series like Psych, Community, and Castle. Next up, Brolin has been cast in the Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy The Nest, as well as David O. Russell’s rom-com Nailed.
