Jason Segel is in early negotiations to join Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s COLLATERAL BEAUTY. The film follows a NY advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy, spurning his co-workers to concoct a plan to snap him out of his grief – which works, but not in a way that anyone could have expected.
Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara, who have been attached since the early stages, will lead. Gomez-Rejon will direct from a script penned by Allan Loeb.
Beauty fits the trend of Segel’s transitioning filmography, which sees the funnyman trading in for dramatic works. Segel is currently receiving rave reviews for his work opposite Jesse Eisenberg in James Ponsoldt’s Sundance darling The End of The Tour.
In keeping with his I Love You, Man and How I Met Your Mother hits, he’s next set to star in a maple syrup heist comedy for director Seth Gordon and Columbia Pictures, as well as Warner Bros.’ animated Lego Movie spinoff The Billion Brick Race.
The news was first reported by Variety.
