After directing a number of hits for Warner Bros., Jaume Collet-Serra has opted not to direct the studio’s sequel SUICIDE SQUAD 2 and will instead direct the Dwayne Johnson movie JUNGLE CRUISE for Disney, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Besides being inspired by the Disney attraction, not much is known about the movie other than it being an “Indiana Jones-like action-adventure franchise” that the studio hopes will be as successful a franchise as their Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Johnny Depp.
Written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who are also writing the planned Star Trek 4, Disney’s Jungle Cruise is set to go into production next spring.
John Davis and John Fox will produce for Davis Entertainment, while Beau Flynn will also produce along with Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
In addition to last summer’s cool shark movie The Shallows, Collet-Serra has directed a handful of Liam Neeson movies, and he re-teams with the actor once again on the upcoming Lionsgate thriller The Commuter. The Spanish-born filmmaker is represented by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Gretchen Rush. Deadline broke the news of his hiring.
