After being passed around, Amblin Entertainment’s sci-fi romance INTELLIGENT LIFE may have officially landed in the hands of Jay Roach. The award-winning writer-director is circling the project originally written by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.
Ava DuVernay was originally attached to direct the film with Lupita Nyong’o attached to star, but stepped down after boarding Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. Roach’s interest to develop the film is a big step to bringing it to the big screen.
The pic follows a U.N. worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien.
Trevorrow will serve as a producer alongside Frank Marshall and Peter Saraf. Connolly and Marc Turtletaub are executive producing.
Roach is known for directing a number of comedies including the movies from Austin Powers and Meet the Parents franchise. He is also known for directing politically-driven projects including All the Way, Game Change, and Recount. His last feature film, Trumbo earned Bryan Cranston an Oscar nod.
