Oscar winner Jeff Bridges is set to star in Drew Goddard’s contained thriller BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE and Chris Hemsworth is in talks to join him, the Tracking Board has confirmed. Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising) has also been mentioned as a favorite for a role, according to sources.
The story is set in the 1960s at a crappy motel near Lake Tahoe in California. Bridges will play a down-on-his-luck priest named Father Daniel Flynn.
The cast will also include a vacuum cleaner salesman, two female criminals, a male cult leader, a desk clerk and an African-American singer, which is the role Beyonce Knowles has been courted for — though Janelle Monae strikes me as a better fit.
Goddard already offered one of the roles to Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland, who passed on the project.
Goddard will direct from his own script, and let’s hope this one is better than The Cabin in the Woods (which co-starred Hemsworth). He’s also producing the genre film, which is expected to start production in January.
Bridges will soon be seen in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while Hemsworth next stars in Thor: Ragnarok. They’re both represented by CAA.
