Disney has found their scribe for the live-action re-imagining of THE LION KING with Jeff Nathanson. He will be teaming up with The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau to bring the fast-tracked production to life.
The film follows the lion cub prince Simba as he tries to find his place in the world after losing his father Mufasa. The original animated film starred Matthew Broderick, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, James Earl Jones, and Jeremy Irons. The new version will incorporate songs from the 1994 original.
This latest Disney live-action film joins a slew of other adaptations including Maleficent, Cinderella, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson. Disney has had great success with this wave of remakes, with Favreau’s Jungle Book grossing over $966 million worldwide and plans for a sequel in the works.
Nathanson previously worked on Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me if You Can, The Terminal, Rush Hour, and Tower Heist.
He is repped by UTA.
