The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is taking a trip into the past to play Zelda Fitzgerald in the biopic, currently titled ZELDA. The project is in development as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard.
The story centers on Fitzgerald, the wife of author F. Scott Fitzgerald who was simultaneously his muse and competitor. The southern belle was hailed as “the first American Flapper” by her husband before she was later diagnosed with schizophrenia. The script was penned by The White Queen scribe Emma Frost, inspired by the best-selling biography from Nancy Milford.
Zelda Fitzgerald has proven a very popular figure in entertainment recently. As The Tracking exclusively reported, Zero Gravity and Next Wednesday are in the works on a biopic following the Fitzgeralds marriage and Scarlett Johansson is attached to play Zelda in The Beautiful and the Damned from Millennium Films. Amazon Studios also created the series Zelda, starring Christina Ricci, following the young socialite and the early years of her relationship with F. Scott Fitzerald.
In addition to starring, Lawrence will produce alongside Allison Shearmur, who previously worked with Lawrence on Hunger Games, Brian Oliver, and Justine Ciarrocchi. Cross Creek Pictures is in talks to finance and produce.
Lawrence stars in the upcoming sci-fi drama Passengers opposite Chris Pratt and was last seen in X-Men: Apocalypse.
She is repped by CAA.
