Writing duo Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer have signed on to script KARATE KID 2 for Sony. The sequel to the rebooted franchise follows the story of an American kid who must win a mixed martial arts tournament in Hong Kong to save his master from the Triad. Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan will reprise their roles for the project, which is being produced by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. “Sahara” director Breck Eisner recently dropped out of the project, leaving the director’s chair open for the project.
Friedman and Palmer have worked together on scripts for the short film “Dockweiler,” as well as the Black List script “Family Getaway,” an action project following an assassin who tries to keep his family safe during a cross-country road trip. They’re currently working on scripts for the Warner Bros. remake of “The Bodyguard.”
