Jeremy Irons & Matthias Schoenaerts Set For “Red Sparrow” With Jennifer Lawrence



The spy thriller RED SPARROW has added and to its all-star cast. The duo will join previously announced cast members Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton.

The Tracking Board broke the story of Lawrence’s involvement with the 20th Century Fox film in 2015. The project would be a reunion for her and Hunger Games helmer Francis Lawrence. Before he agreed to sit in the director’s chair, the project made its rounds around Hollywood with a revolving door of directors showing interest including David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky. At one point, Rooney Mara was attached to star, but the role eventually went to Lawrence.

Adapted from the Jason Matthews espionage novel, the story follows a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) who is ordered against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress, and to operate against a young CIA agent who handles the agency’s most important Russian mole.

Justin Haythe wrote the current draft of the originally penned by Eric Warren. Chernin Entertainment is set to produce alongside Steve Zaillian with Garrett Basch serving as executive producer.

Irons can be seen next in Their Finest with Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy. He also can be seen in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed and will reprise his role as Alfred Pennyworth in the DC comics pic Justice League.

Schoenaerts recent credits include The Danish Girl and A Bigger Splash. He can be seen next in Netflix’s Our Souls at Night with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.
