USA Network has given a pilot order to THE SINNER, a new crime thriller series, which actor Jessica Biel is set to star in, as well as executive produce. The series is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Petra Hammesfahr.
Biel is set to play Cora Bender, a young, unassuming mother who one day commits a public act of gruesome violence. The case is simple — Cora confesses, and there’s no lack of witnesses. But when the police commissioner digs deeper, not convinced by the elementary nature of the case, terrible secrets about Cora and her own personal hell are uncovered.
Derek Simonds (The Astronauts Wives Club) wrote the pilot and Antonio Campos (Simon Killer) will direct. They will also both executive produce alongside Biel and Michelle Purple, her producing partner, under their Iron Ocean Films company. Universal Cable Productions is set to produce the hourlong drama.
The Sinner joins Damnation and The Tap, which have both also received pilot orders from USA.
Biel continues to be known for her role as Mary Camden on the family drama 7th Heaven, although she left after the sixth season. She has had a limited television presence since then, instead focusing on film and appearing in features like The Illusionist, Hitchcock, and The A-Team. This would be a return to television in a big way.
