HBO’s critical and ratings darling GAME OF THRONES has added a familiar face to its penultimate season: actor Jim Broadbent. He has landed what’s being described as a “significant” role in the series, which could mean a variety of characters, especially in the world of Westeros.
While fans are now speculating who Broadbent could be playing, the powers that be behind the hit fantasy series are, unsurprisingly, keeping their lips tightly sealed. This series is nothing if not heavily safeguarded in order to keep their more shocking moments under wraps.
The next season has yet to begin shooting as creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss decided to push the schedule back in order to shoot in colder weather since winter has finally come. This means that the series will premiere at a later date than its normal April airing (and miss out on next year’s Emmys). Furthermore, the season will also only consist of seven episodes, rather than its typical ten.
Primary shooting will take place in Northern Ireland, while other locations include Spain and Iceland.
Broadbent has appeared in movies like Bridget Jones’s Diary, the Harry Potter franchise, and most recently The Legend of Tarzan and Eddie the Eagle. In 2002, he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the film Iris. He also won a Golden Globe for the role and a BAFTA for his supporting role in Moulin Rouge!.
