The film tells the story of Katherine Johnson (Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Monae), the brilliant African American minds behind launching astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Parsons will play the role of Paul Stafford, the head engineer at the NASA Space Task Group, who has difficulty working with Johnson in the beginning. The two end up setting their racial and gender differences aside in order to complete the mission at hand. Kevin Costner and Kirsten Dunst are also attached to star.
Ted Melfi is set to direct Allison Schroeder‘s adaptation of the Margot Lee Shetterly book, Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race. Melfi will also serve as producer of the film alongside Chernin Entertainment and Donna Gigliotti‘s Levantine Films.
Parsons is known for his Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning role in The Big Bang Theory, which is currently in its ninth season. He also lent his voice to the animated feature Home opposite Rihanna. In 2011, he made his Broadway debut in the Larry Kramer play, The Normal Heart, a role he reprised in Ryan Murphy’s HBO adaptation in 2014.
He is repped by CAA.
