Sitcom star Jim Parson continues to add to his very full workload as he attaches himself to produce and star in BROTHER ORANGE for BuzzFeed Motion Pictures and Warner Bros. The film is inspired by the real events after BuzzFeed’s editor Matt Stopera’s cellphone was stolen.
In 2014, Stopera’s phone was stolen and a year later random pictures began appearing on his photo stream, including a handful of images of a serious-looking man in front of an orange tree. Stopera wrote a series of stories for BuzzFeed based on the events, and they quickly went viral overseas, blowing up on Weibo with more than 20 million views in the first 24 hours, inspiring people to help track down the mysterious man. It’s the story of an unlikely, accidental friendship that bridges cultural divides. Parsons is attached to play Stopera.
Stopera will executive produce the film with Broad City‘s Ilana Glazer, Ellen DeGeneres, and Jeff Kleeman. Parsons produces alongside Todd Spiewak through their That’s Wonderful Productions, and BuzzFeed’s Matthew Henick and Michael Shamberg.
Parsons is best known for playing Sheldon Cooper on CBS’s long-running sitcom Big Bang Theory. The character is so popular, the network is considering a potential spinoff following the earlier years of Cooper’s life. Parsons is also producing Lakeside, VA, a project at ABC with a put pilot commitment. He can next be seen opposite Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer in Hidden Figures this awards season.
