Joe Cornish Eyes Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Ferguson for “The Kid Who Would Be King” (Exclusive)

and are in negotiations to star in Joe Cornish’s family-friendly fantasy film , the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.

, the son of Andy Serkis, will play the lead role, and he’ll be joined by Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) Rhianna Dorris (Secret Life of Boys), Angus Imrie (Kingdom) and newcomer Dean Chaumoo.

The Kid Who Would Be King is an action-adventure movie about a band of young kids who embark on an epic quest to thwart a Medieval menace named Morgana who is the half-sister of King Arthur.

Serkis will play Alex, a young British boy who stumbles upon the famous sword known as Excalibur, while Taylor will play his mate Lance (aka Lancelot). Imrie would play young Merlin, while Stewart is making a deal to play the older incarnation of Merlin.

Elsewhere, Ferguson is nearing a deal to play the villainous Morgana, while Irish actress Denise Gough (Guerrilla) will play Alex’s mother, who is raising the boy by herself.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce The Kid Who Would Be King alongside Nira Park of Big Talk Pictures, and the film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox, whose Michael Ireland will oversee the project for the . This will be Cornish’s first film since his acclaimed 2011 debut Attack the Block, which launched John Boyega as a major star.

Stewart recently co-starred in Fox’s Logan, and the is planning a major awards campaign for his final turn as Professor Charles Xavier. He also voiced the character of Poop in The Emoji Movie, and he’ll soon be seen alongside Glenn Close and John Malkovich in the indie The Wilde Wedding. Stewart, who is represented by , Independent Talent Group and Anonymous , has also wrapped the indie The Gift with Katie Holmes.

Ferguson has another Fox movie on the horizon, as she co-stars in the ’s upcoming musical The Greatest Showman, which could prove to be an awards contender. She also stars opposite Michael Fassbender in the Universal thriller The Snowman, and she’ll return for Mission: Impossible 6. She’s repped by and Tavistock Wood Management.

Serkis played Young Hatter in Alice Through the Looking Glass, and he also had a recurring role on Tom Hardy’s FX series Taboo. Additionally, Serkis plays Bhoot in his father’s upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book at Warner Bros. He’s repped by Lou Coulson Associates.

Taylor, who played the young lead in The Dark Tower alongside Idris Elba, is repped by Independent Talent Group and attorney Rick Genow. Gough is repped by and Independent Talent Group.
