Joe Wright is set to explore the supernatural world in the thriller, THE RUINS. Wright is partnering with Fox Searchlight under his own Shoebox Films to develop the film set in India.
The film will be written by Jon Croker, but details of the story haven’t been revealed. Wright, Paul Webster, and Guy Heeley from Shoebox are overseeing the project. Whether or not Wright will direct hasn’t been decided.
Croker recently wrote Desert Dancer starring Freida Pinto. He also penned The Woman in Black 2: The Angel of Death, the sequel to the 2012 horror original starring Daniel Radcliffe. He will also be adapting the classic series of books The Famous Five by Enid Blyton.
Wright is known for directing high-profile period pieces including Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, and Anna Karenina. He directed the most recent Peter Pan adaptation, Pan starring Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara. He will next direct an episode the popular anthology Black Mirror with Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve. He is also attached to direct the adaptation of the stage play A Season in the Congo starring Chiwetel Ejiofor.
