The show is based on the 404 error code often seen on the Internet and will explore the weird side of the Internet as characters come across stories that cannot explain the world as we know it.
McHale will play Mr. Maker, a charismatic, eccentric, yet slightly patronizing found of a matchmaking company that offers single adults a seemingly perfect solution to finding love. The character will appear in one episode.
Hyland has been cast in another episode as Chloe, an unassumingly cute, typically independent high school student just discovering that boys are into her. With her older classmates’ opinions increasingly taking on more importance, Chloe pushes her uncle/best pal, Dusty, to take her to a screening of a new sci-fi action film in a fresh, never-before-seen cinematic format – “Cinethrax” – which gives the audience a strange, perilous movie-going experience.
Lea Michele and Robert Buckley were previously cast and will appear in the same episode as McHale.
The series is produced by RocketJump and distributed by Lionsgate. It is created by Dez Dolly and Will Campos, and co-creators Dan Johnson and David Welch. Freddie Wong directs and will executive produce with Matthew Arnold and Dolly.
McHale is best known for starring on NBC’s cult comedy Community and hosting E! series The Soup. He was most recently seen in The X-Files and will next star in The Great Indoors for CBS.
Hyland continues to star in Modern Family and recently signed on for ABC’s pretaped Dirty Dancing event.
