John Curran is looking to take over the directing duties of the indie CHAPPAQUIDDICK which tapped Jason Clarke to star as Senator Ted Kennedy.
Curran will be stepping in for Sam Taylor-Johnson, who was previously attached to the project but pulled out of the project after scheduling conflicts with her directing responsibilities for the upcoming Netflix series Gypsy.
Set in the summer of 1969, Chappaquiddick tells the true story of what happened when Ted Kennedy drove off the road into a Martha’s Vineyard bay with Mary Jo Kopechne in the car. Kennedy ended up panicking and left the scene of the accident while Kopechne ended up dying. He did not report the accident until nine hours after it happened.
Andrew Logan and Taylor Allen wrote the script which made the Hit List and the Black List in 2015. Mark Ciardi and Campbell McInnes will produce under Apex Entertainment while Chris Cowles and Chris Fenton from DMG will serve as executive producers.
Curran’s most recent film was Tracks starring Mia Wasikowska. He also is known for Stone starring Robert DeNiro and the acclaimed Painted Veil. He is currently working on the HBO mini-series Lewis and Clark starring Casey Affleck. He is repped by CAA.
Clarke was recently seen in Everest and Terminator Genisys. He can be seen next in the Marc Forster thriller All I See Is You with Blake Lively and the World War II thriller HHhHM with Rosamund Pike and Mia Waskikowska. He is repped by WME and RGM Artists.
