Scandal‘s Tony Goldwyn and Fruitvale Station‘s Melonie Diaz will be joining The Newsroom‘s John Gallagher Jr. in the James Gunn-produced horror outing THE BELKO EXPERIMENT. Scripted by Guardians Of The Galaxy helmer Gunn, the thriller revolves around the American Belko company in South America, which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves.
Diaz will play Dany Wilkins, a new employee at Belko whose first day turns into a nightmare. Goldwyn is set to star as Barry Norris, someone who’s used to being in charge at the Belko Building in South America and doesn’t take to his mysterious new orders well. Gallagher Jr. will play Mike Pelk, one of the film’s leads.
Gunn will produce alongside Peter Safran, with Australian director Greg McLean helming. The MGM production is gearing up to start next month in Bogota, Colombia.
Goldwyn currently portrays President Grant on the hit ABC series Scandal, but just recently appeared in The Divergent Series: Insurgent. Up next, the former Tarzan will produce the drama The Angry One and direct an untitled thriller for Paramount. He’s repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
Fresh off her dramatic turn in the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station, Diaz most recently appeared in Adam Sandler’s The Cobbler. She’s also appeared in Hamlet 2, Be Kind Rewind, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and Lords of Dogtown. In the television landscape, Diaz has appeared on Rizzoli & Isles, Person of Interest, and HBO’s Girls. She’s repped by Gersh and Thruline Entertainment.
Gallagher Jr. just wrapped up his run on HBO’s The Newsroom, which concluded this past December. He recently appeared on another HBO drama, the mini-series Olive Kitteridge, as well as in the drama The Heart Machine and opposite Brie Larson in Short Term 12. Up next, he’ll star in a currently untitled thriller from Paramount and Bad Robot. He’s repped by Gersh and Global Creative-Station 3.
