Veteran actor John Goodman has been named the first cast member to join Rupert Wyatt’s next film, the sci-fi drama CAPTIVE STATE. It reunites the two after Goodman also appeared in Wyatt’s 2014 film The Gambler.
While the plot is unknown at this time, it’s based on a spec co-written by Wyatt and Erica Beeney. Participant Media acquired the rights to the project in August, with Wyatt saying this is the film he’s “always wanted to make.”
It’s also not known what type of role Goodman will take on for the film.
Wyatt will produce with David Crockett, while Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King are set to executive produce. Focus Features is handling domestic distribution and eOne is taking care of international distribution, while the film will be released via Participant’s deal with Amblin.
Goodman’s resume is extensive and he most recently appeared in the sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane. He also has three films currently awaiting release: Patriots Day, Kong: Skull Island, and he’ll be lending his voice talents to Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
He’s repped by Gersh.
