After working with Nicolas Winding Refn on The Neon Demon, Jena Malone has joined the cast of the director’s Amazon series Too Old to Die Young along with John Hawkes, Billy Baldwin, Callie Hernandez (La La Land), Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), Cristina Rodlo (Sony’s Miss Bala), Augusto Aguilera (The Predator) and Babs Olusanmokun (The Defenders), it was announced Tuesday.
Miles Teller is set to star as a police officer who becomes entangled in the world of assassins. The series explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following killers’ existential journeys in becoming samurai.
We’re not sure where the rest of these actors fit into the series, but Refn has surely assembled an intriguing cast here.
Refn will direct all ten episodes himself, having co-written the script with celebrated comics writer Ed Brubaker, who will serve as an executive producer on the project.
In addition to The Neon Demon, Malone recently appeared in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. She’s represented by Gersh.
Hawkes, who can currently be seen opposite Frances McDormand in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, recently wrapped The Peanut Butter Falcon with Shia LaBeouf. He’s repped by Innovative Artists and Thruline Entertainment.
Baldwin broke out in early ’90s movies such as Flatliners and Backdraft, though he has spent the last decade working mostly in television on such shows as Gossip Girl, Hawaii Five-0, Parenthood, Dirty Sexy Money and Hot in Cleveland. He’s repped by Innovative Artists and LINK Entertainment.
Hernandez recently co-starred in Alien: Covenant, and she’ll soon be seen in David Robert Mitchell’s Under the Silver Lake. She’s repped by CAA and Management 360.
