After landing Joe Wright to direct the third season premiere of BLACK MIRROR, Netflix has hired another veteran feature filmmaker for its upcoming fourth season, as John Hillcoat (Triple 9) is set to direct an episode rumored to be titled “Crocodile,” the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Plot details regarding the episode are being kept under wraps, but “Crocodile” is believed to feature two female protagonists, with Andrea Riseborough weighing an offer to tackle one of the roles.
Representatives for Netflix and the Birdman actress did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Hailing from creator Charlie Brooker, who serves as executive producer alongside Annabel Jones, Black Mirror examines the negative affects of technology on society.
Hillcoat’s feature credits include his acclaimed debut The Proposition and the Viggo Mortensen drama The Road, as well Lawless and Triple 9, both of which featured star-studded ensembles. He’s represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, Curtis Brown Group and attorney David Weber.
Riseborough is one of England’s top actresses, having recently co-starred in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals and Best Picture winner Birdman. She’ll soon be seen in Fox Searchlight’s tennis movie Battle of the Sexes, Armando Iannucci’s drama The Death of Stalin, the indie thriller Nancy and the KKK drama Burden.
Though her involvement in Black Mirror remains unconfirmed, Riseborough already has fans at Netflix, having had a recurring role on the streaming service’s series Bloodline. She’s repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Independent Talent Group.
