John Malkovich To Star In Comedy “Supercon”

Comic book convention comedy SUPERCON has tapped to star. The film is set to begin production in New Orleans this week.

Malkovich joins previously cast Maggie Grace, Mike Epps, Russell Peters, Clancy Brown, and CariDee English. The film will follow them as a group of washed up television stars and comic book artists who make their living attending conventions. Down on their luck, the ragtag team hashes a plot to rob the convention and bring justice to a crooked promoter and an overbearing former TV icon.

Zak Knutson will helm the laffer. He also co-wrote the script with Andrew Sipes. Gold Star Films Joey Tufaro and Todd Trosclair produce alongside Momentum Productions’ Susan Gorrell and Maria J. McDonald.

With convention attendance numbers at an all-time high, more and more projects are popping up that center around the events. Amazon previously put into development a series based on Galaxy Quest, a film that poked fun at Star Trek and their conventions, and Alan Tudyk created the web series Con Man, based on his experiences attending conventions after starring in the gone-too-soon sci-fi series Firefly

Malkovich was recently seen in Zoolander 2 and next stars in Dominion and Deepwater Horizon
