Best-selling fantasy series THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE has added The Librarian‘s John Rogers to write and executive produce a pilot for Lionsgate’s television adaptation. He joins previously attached Lin-Manuel Miranda who is producing and composing original music.
The adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss’s series includes a movie based on the original trilogy and associated novellas, while the television series will build on the world outside of the books. The story follows a wizard with a tragic childhood who becomes a household name. The books have sold more than 10 million copies with the first two trilogy installments making the New York Times Best Seller list.
Rogers produces under his Kung Fu Monkey banner alongside Jennifer Court, Robert Lawrence, Miranda, and Rothfuss. Lionsgate’s Chris Selak and Andy Richley will oversee the series’ development.
Rogers has had a long career in television having previously created the series The Librarians and Leverage. More recently he created The Player on NBC and is currently working on ABC’s Magnum PI sequel.
He is repped by CAA and Thruline Entertainment.
