John Travolta he has signed on to join the cast of FX’s new drama AMERICAN CRIME STORY. The series, in the vein of American Horror Story, will follow a different true life crime each season. This season, subtitled “The People v. O.J Simpson,” is based on Jeffery Toobin’s book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J Simpson. Travolta is set to portray Robert Shapiro, a staple member of Simpson’s “dream team” during his 1995 murder trial, opposite Cuba Gooding Jr., David Schwimmer, and Sarah Paulson. In addition to co-starring, Travolta will also serve as producer along with executive producers Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacodson, Brad Simpson, Alexander Karaszewski, Brad Falchuk, and Dante Di Loreto. The 10-episode miniseries will be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
The much anticipated drama is Travolta’s first return to television in a starring role since since his stint in 1979 on Welcome Back, Kotter. The majority of the actor’s work has been in feature films where we has starred in classics such as Grease and Saturday Night Fever. The highly esteemed actor has had considerable difficulty maintaining high-profile starring roles in recent years, so the switch back to television could be just the push he needs, especially on such an anticipated project.
