Daredevil and The Punisher star Jon Bernthal has landed the lead role in the upcoming crime thriller STINGRAY from writer-director Anthony Hayes. John and Michael Schwarz of Full Clip Productions are producing the film.
Sticking to the morally grey action roles Bernthal has become known for, he’s set to star in the project as a character who accidentally kills the brother of a kingpin in a crime syndicate. To pay off his blood debt, the kingpin gives him two days to kill one of his own family members.
The film is currently in pre-production and looking to start shooting in April in Canada.
Before this, Hayes was primarily known as an actor, having appeared in films such as The Light Between Oceans, Healing, and Animal Kingdom. His directing experience before this was limited to 2008’s Ten Empty. He’s repped by Gotham Group.
Bernthal has had a successful 2016, from his fan-favorite role as Frank Castle in Season 2 of Daredevil and this past weekend’s The Accountant. He’s currently filming the first season of the Daredevil spinoff The Punisher. He also had roles in AMC’s The Walking Dead and movies like Sicario and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl before this. He’s repped by WME and Burstein Company.
