Jon Spaihts has been brought on as the new writer for Disney’s remake of THE BLACK HOLE.
“Pacific Rim” scribe Travis Beacham was originally writing the film which centers on the crew of the space ship Palomino, who near the end of their five-year mission through space in search of alien life come upon the largest black hole ever discovered, with the long-missing starship Cygnus at its edge. The only human onboard, reknowned scientist Dr. Hans Reinhardt, does not want to be rescued, but plans to enter the black hole and take the Palomino’s crew with him. The original 1979 film was directed by Gary Nelson, with Joseph Kosinski helming this time around.
Justin Springer and Sean Bailey will serve as producers on the project.
Spaihts wrote the original script for Ridley Scott’s Sci-fi pic “Prometheus” and his scripts “Shadow 19” and “Passengers” are both in development.
He is repped by Paradigm.
